Recycling or reusing packaging? What's the solution?

Nous souhaitons partager avec vous la position du Conseil National de l’Emballage (CNE) sur le réemploi et le recyclage des emballages, deux solutions complémentaires pour réduire les impacts environnementaux liés au cycle de production de la matière.

We would like to share with you the position of the Conseil National de l’Emballage (CNE) on the reuse and recycling of packaging, two complementary solutions for reducing the environmental impact of the material’s production cycle.

The CNE, whose mission is to develop and disseminate best practice in the design, marketing and use of product packaging, does not favour either option, but recommends a case-by-case approach based on a life cycle analysis (LCA) that includes several impact indicators.

  • Reuse, which consists of using the same packaging several times for the same purpose for which it was designed, requires a specialised collection, return, washing and repair circuit.
  • Recycling, which consists of reprocessing packaging waste into substances, materials or products for its original function or for other purposes, requires sorting before transformation into new packaging.

What is your opinion on the subject?
